Milan - The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour continues to push for double-handed sailing, and after the agreement signed with ORC and RORC, is now ready to announce a new partnership with The Magenta Project, defined to promote the development of double-handed sailing and particularly more women in this growing class.
The Magenta Project is a collective of passionate people committed to developing pathways and generating opportunities for more equity and inclusion in sailing, leading with gender. It works with a wide range of individuals and organizations to make a positive and progressive impact on the sport of sailing, from grassroots initiatives to partnerships with international events and leagues. The agreement reached with the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour continues to build The Magenta Project’s network of likeminded organizations in the industry supporting female talent development.
Riccardo Simoneschi, leader of SSI Events, organizer along with Difesa Servizi S.p.A. of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, stated: “Pursuing the idea of spreading the culture of double sailing, it was foundational for us to reach in agreement also with those involved in promoting sailing in the female field and I immediacy understood that The Magenta Project would be the perfect partner: they are very committed to spreading sailing culture and are full of ideas and initiatives. I think that together we can do a lot to achieve our goals.”
In partnership, the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour has granted The Magenta Project charity a team to compete in the Female Offshore Mediterranean Two-Handed Championship at the Yacht Club Livorno 20th April – 1st May 2023. The Magenta Project has nominated one ranked double-handed team already accepted by the event organizer, and has the opportunity to nominate a second development team on behalf of the charity’s Mentoring programme, which supports women pursuing professional careers in sailing. The team charter costs are being covered by MMNRT for The Magenta Project network in order to make this championship race event more accessible to rising talent.
“The events organized by the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour team are great events for women looking to advance their offshore racing careers and profiles. The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour provides access to a very competitive fleet, the Beneteau Figaro 3, and with this kind of event we grant additional training and racing opportunities for women to have access to race one of these boats at a high level. We are happy to work with MMNRT team to extend the opportunity to our network of talented women across Europe to compete in this year’s Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour events,” confirmed Meg Reilly, executive leader of The Magenta Project.
Interested individuals or double-handed teams can apply to be considered for The Magenta Project development team at this year’s Female Offshore Mediterranean Two-handed Championship. There are also still a few Beneteau Figaro 3 boats available for race charter through the MMNRT; please contact The Magenta Project to inquire about the development team or ranked double-handed team charters: contact@themagentaproject.org
