MMNR Veloce 2024 - started from Venice: the longest regatta in the Mediterranean*

The magic of the Venetian lagoon was the backdrop for the start of the "Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce 2024", the sailing event that represents the longest regatta in the Mediterranean, organized by Difesa Servizi in collaboration with the Italian Navy and SSI Sport & Events. In front of a fascinated audience, the ten one-design Beneteau Figaro 3 boats started in the Grand Canal in front of Piazza San Marco and the Thaon di Revel, a modern multipurpose combat ship of the Navy, with the exciting mission of circumnavigating Italy and Sicily, covering a route of 1,492 nautical miles without stops, to reach Genoa.

The start was preceded by an official presentation at the Naval History Museum of Venice, where civil and military authorities spoke, including Rear Admiral Giuseppe Schivardi, Commander of the Institute of Maritime Military Studies, and Dr. Giovanni Giusto, advisor to the protection of traditions, who brought greetings from the mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro.

Riccardo Simoneschi, President of SSI Events, opened the event by declaring: “This regatta represents a challenge not only for the participants, but also a showcase for our country. The presence of important international sailors attests to the ever-growing prestige of the event.”

Fleet Admiral Antonio Natale, Commander of the Navy Schools of Ancona, brought greetings from the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Fleet Admiral Enrico Credendino, underlining the importance of this initiative: “The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce is an event that not only celebrates sport, but also enhances the beauty and diversity of our cultural and maritime heritage. With this regatta we promote the values ??of the Italian Navy, we unite Italian stories, traditions and cultures.”

Luca Andreoli, CEO of Difesa Servizi, concluded: “The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour and Veloce were the first sporting and cultural events organized by Difesa Servizi to promote the values, traditions, material and cultural heritage as well as the skills of our Armed Forces and our Defense. A unique format, starting from the name, Italian but with an international vocation, now in its fourth edition, appreciated by the public and sailors and that, given the success, we will continue to improve to make it increasingly a pop event, for the general public, as it is capable of making our country known from a different perspective: that of the sea. So, the appointment is at the finish, in Genoa, to celebrate the winners and verify whether the fantastic record of the non-stop circumnavigation of 8 days, 8 hours and 37 minutes set in 2021 will hold.”

The route not only connects Venice to Genoa, but symbolizes an embrace of Italy, the spirit of adventure and sustainability. The maritime community and tourists thus have the opportunity to live an unforgettable experience, witnessing the beauty of our sea and our traditions.
