Venice, November 6th 2022 - After the success of the first edition, the longest regatta in the Mediterranean is back again this year. This is the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce, a non-stop double course with a record of distance: 1492 nautical miles. Departed from Venice this morning at 11.30, it will arrive in Genoa after circumnavigating Italy and Sicily.
The project
The event is carried out in close partnership between Difesa Servizi SpA, a company of the Ministry of Defense, and SSI Events. Marina Militare will support the event, as title partner. A sporting event that uses the language of sailing, deeply rooted in our culture, designed to carry on the values ??of the Italian navy and promote the places of our peninsula in its most authentic aspects. An important resource to be promoted on our coasts, together with the beauty of the country as part of the Valore Paese Italia project. Valore Paese Italia is part of the Institutional Agreement signed by Difesa Servizi SpA with the State Property Agency, the Ministry of Culture, Enit, and by the institutional partners that support the initiative: Invitalia, Istituto per il Credito Sportivo, Anas, Anci, FPC and the world of slow tourism and soft mobility. The initiative aims to recover and enhance the public heritage by associating tourism and culture with the environment and mobility through the synergy of all the institutions involved, together to create a network around the relaunch of the Italian tourism sector.
The concept
The idea of ??a Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce, to be traveled aboard ten one design foil boats Beneteau Figaro 3 managed by SSI Events, destined to develop along the circumnavigation of the peninsula, was born from the desire to give life to a long international and competitive offshore regatta. The course will develop through the Italian lighthouses and, therefore, all the boats will continue to have the name of a lighthouse. It will be an important opportunity for media exposure of very fascinating properties, immersed in highly suggestive contexts, dedicated to tourism, nature, culture and the environment, thanks to the prestigious projects undergoing renovation and enhancement.
The regatta
It started on November 6th from Venice, more precisely in front of Piazza San Marco, and will end in Genoa, the 2024 European Capital of Sport and chosen as the venue for The Grand Finale of The Ocean Race 2022-23, after covering 1492 miles. The organization will follow along the coast the progress of the boats with campers and there are predefined pit stop stations, for the crews who intend to use them: a team of technicians will be available to deal with any issue. To make the regatta even more exciting, there is a prize pool that will be drawn from the entry fees. The reference time to beat is the one set by Sophie Faguet and Jonas Gerckens last year: 8d 8h 27m 23s, an absolute record, the overcoming of which will be rewarded with an important prize pool.
The protagonist
From last year's double mixed to this year's double, the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce presents itself with a series of new crews, starting with the Double Mixed Offshore World and European Champion Cecilia Zorzi who, aboard Team Mexedia will race with Alina Bauza. Other top crews will be those composed of Pietro D'Alì and Matteo Sericano, racing on TOR Genova, already protagonists of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour 2021 and winners of the final stage, and Federico Waksman and Nicolas Ferelec, racing under the colors of Uruguay aboard Sanfer. Among the crews that will compete in this suggestive "fast" regatta, the one of the Marina Militare could not be missing, always on the podium in the latest editions of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour. This time the boat will count on the presence of Lino Ceraldi and Pierpaolo De Carolis. Attention must be paid to Alejandro Cantero and Louis Fournier with Team IREN.
The crews were presented in Venice on Saturday 5th November at the Officers' Club of the Marina Militare, during the opening of the regatta. The event was attended by Division Admiral Andrea Petroni, Director of the Institute of Maritime Military Studies in Venice, Dr. Luca Andreoli, General Director of Difesa Servizi and Dr. Riccardo Simoneschi, President and CEO of SSI Events. Also present was Dr. Elisabetta Pesce, Secretary for Security of the Municipality of Venice, who brought greetings from the Mayor Brugnaro.
