MMNR Veloce, the third edition is ready to go

Venice -  After the success of the first editions, and the last year victory of Pietro D'Alì and Matteo Sericano, the longest regatta in the Mediterranean returns: the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce, a non-stop double handed regatta with a record distance: 1492 nautical miles. Departing from Venice on Sunday 5 November, it will arrive in Genoa after having circumnavigated Italy and Sicily, which will be left to the right. Given the complexity of the weather situation, the Organizing Committee will continue its observation throughout today and will confirm the exact departure time by Saturday evening. The event is carried out in close partnership between Difesa Servizi SpA, a company of the Ministry of Defense that deals with valorising the assets of the Armed Forces, and SSI Events, a company specialized in organizing international regattas. The Marina Mlitare will support the event, as title partner.

The regatta
Departing on November 5th from Venice, it will end in Genoa, European Capital of Sport 2024, after about ten days, at the end of a 1492 mile journey covered in a period of the year characterized by a limited number of daylight hours, bitter temperatures and constantly changing weather conditions. The organization will follow the progress of the boats along the coast with an emergency response team able to deal with any eventuality. To make the regatta even more exciting, a prize money is awaiting the top crews. The reference time to beat is the one set by Sophie Faguet and Pierre Lebouchers in 2021 on Team Urban Value and is equal to 8d 8h 27m 23s: a record of absolute value, the overcoming of which will be rewarded with another important prize money.

The protagonists
Ten crews, with a strong international representation, will animate the third Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce 2023. Among the expected protagonists are Giancarlo Simeoli and Niccolò Bertola, already among the top players of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour regatta for the Aeronautica Militare, and the new duo composed of the expert Andrea Pendibene and Andrea Trani, former 470 world champion and today one-design specialist, representing the Marina Militare. Also at the start, on board Race for Science, are the French Eduard Goldbery and Alicia de Pfyffer and the Franco-Iberian crew made up of Ambre Hasson and Aina Bauza. Completing the entry list are Matteo Bandiera-Paola Alrcolin, Francesco Renella-Valentina Fissore, Andrea Cupaioli-Lorenzo Donati, Nicola Brunotti-Michele Rinaldi, Pierluigi Capozzi-Alessio Brasili and Giacomo Nicchitta-Nicolò Gamenara.

"Defining the entry list for this edition of the Veloce was pleasantly complicated - explains Riccardo Simoneschi, leader of SSi Events - After the record numbers of entries recorded for the European Women's Doubles Championship and the Doubles-Mixed Offshore World Championship, also for the Veloce we have received over fifteen registration requests. This is an important number, if we consider the uniqueness and commitment of the challenge, determined by the competitiveness of the format and pushed up by the agreements made at the beginning of the season with RORC and ORC for the promotion of double-handed sailing".

The official opening and presentation of the crews are scheduled for 5.30pm on Saturday 4 November at the Circolo Ufficiali of the Marina Militare in Venice.
